Germany delivers second IRIS-T defence system to Ukraine

Berlin has supplied Kyiv with another IRIS-T defence system along with missiles.

As can be seen on the website of the German government, recent deliveries also include eight Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks and two load-handling trucks 8x6 with roll-off containers.

Germany announced on 18 April that it had delivered the first IRIS-T defence system to Ukraine. At the time, Ukrainian Air Force representative Yuriy Ihnat could neither confirm nor deny the news. He stressed that receiving such a system would be a landmark event since it would allow targets to be shot down at greater distances.

On 5 January 2023, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Berlin intends to supply Kyiv with another Patriot missile battery. AP earlier wrote that Patriot would be the most advanced defence system provided by the West to Ukraine for countering Russian aerial attacks.
