Ukraine: 23 killed in Uman following strike on residential block

Three days of mourning declared in the region

A 9-storey building and a warehouse suffered a missile strike overnight, says Ihor Taburets, the Cherkasy region governor. As of the most recent data from Ihor Klimenko, Ukraine’s Interior Minister, a total of ten people were killed.

Nine more locals are in hospital.

Taburets reported the strike against the residential block at around 6 in the morning local time. A rescue operation is ongoing at the scene.

Serhiy Lysak, the Dnipro region governor, says a detached house was destroyed in Dnipro following an overnight missile attack.

“A girl, 2, and a woman, 31, were killed. Three people were injured: a man, 58, and a woman, 57, were admitted to hospital with moderately severe injuries. A woman, 31, will receive outpatient treatment,” he said.

Additionally, a private enterprise has been destroyed in Dnipro, and a construction yard is still on fire. Lysak also added that Ukraine’s military had taken down seven Russian cruise missiles.

According to Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Ukrainian air defence shot down 21 of 23 Russian Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles last night, as well as two operational-tactical UAVs. He noted that the strike was carried out using Tu-95 bombers flying over the Caspian Sea.

Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv city military administration, says that, according to preliminary data, 11 cruise missiles were destroyed in the airspace over Ukraine’s capital.

“In addition to the missiles, 2 more UAVs were shot down. A power line was broken and a road was damaged in the Obolon district following a debris fall. There were no civilian casualties and no damage to residential facilities or infrastructure,” he said.

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said that a missile fragment hit a high-rise building in the Kyiv region, injuring two people, including a teenager of 13 years.
