Wife of Russian man detained in Krasnoyarsk says her husband stabbed himself in throat with ball pen after torture

The wife of 35-year-old Khalik Dzhakhangirov, who was detained in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk has accused detective Yevgeny Bochkin of torturing her husband, NGS24.RU reports.

Dzhakhangirov was detained on suspicion of hooliganism on 29 March. According to the woman, Bochkin threatened her husband to place him in a sweatbox, tased him, and put a plastic bag over his head to restrict airflow to elicit a confession. The wife said that the torture continued for several days when her husband was told to sign a confession admission.

“My husband attempted suicide by stabbing his throat multiple times with the ball pen which he was given to sign the confession,”

she said, adding that her husband is currently in a prison hospital.

The woman wrote an appeal to local lawmaker Elena Penzina. In turn, the lawmaker wrote to the regional commissioner for human rights.
