Pilot detained after crash of Ukrainian light plane in Russia’s Bryansk region charged with illegal border crossing

The Ukrainian pilot detained after the crash of a light plane in Russia’s Bryansk region has been charged with illegal border crossing, Russia’s state news agency TASS reports, citing the Bryansk Regional Court.

According to TASS, the pilot has been charged with crossing the state border of the Russian Federation without valid documents for right of entry and exit, the maximum punishment under this article is two years of imprisonment. The preventive measure for the pilot will be selected today by the Sovetsky District Court, TASS adds.

The Bryansk Sovetsky District Court arrested the Ukrainian pilot detained after the light plane crash. He will remain in custody until 4 May 2023.

On 5 April, Ukraine’s light aircraft crashed in Russia’s Bryansk region located near the border between Russia and Ukraine. The pilot, who said his name was Oleksandr Morozov, was detained by the FSB border patrol service. Pro-Kremlin Telegram channels published photos of an A-22 aircraft. According to their reports, the pilot was armed with an assault rifle. His alleged task was to follow another plane at the height of 50 metres and “to take a photo upon being ordered to”.

According to Current Time, Morozov and other Kharkiv region volunteers created an “air ambulance” several years ago; they transported doctors to patients who live in far-away villages.
