A court of cassation in Russia’s Vladivostok has cancelled a previous decision by a court in Khabarovsk to acquit Yulia Tsvetkova, an artist, on her charges of “disseminating pornography” by sharing drawings of vaginas on social media, Novaya-Europe found out from Tsvetkova’s mother Anna Khodyreva.
The case is to be re-considered by a court in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. “The reason is that the FSB is in play,” Khodyreva says.
A court in Komsomolsk-on-Amur acquitted Tsvetkova on her charges on 15 July 2022. A court in Khabarovsk confirmed the decision on 22 November.
Yulia Tsvetkova is an artist and LGBT activist from Komsomolsk-on-Amur. She was charged with “disseminating pornography” in 2019. The court closed the hearings on the case for citizens and the press, explaining that during the meeting “the intimate aspects of participants’ lives may be announced” and “materials classified by the prosecution as pornographic would be considered.”
Tsvetkova was added to the list of foreign agents on 22 July.
