Russia’s Krasnodar cancels concert of Ukrainian singer Ani Lorak. Mayor believes she could donate earnings to Ukrainian forces

The city of Krasnodar, southern Russia, has cancelled an upcoming concert of Ukrainian singer Ani Lorak, Mayor Yevgeny Naumov reported.

He said that the decision was “inevitable”. “We, the residents, are against shows conducted by people who confess their love for the authorities in Ukraine who fight against us,” he wrote.

“No businessman, actor, or singer who has this view on the special military operation will make money here. We cannot guarantee that these money will not ultimately be spent to support those who fight against our boys, those who supply them with ammo and projectiles,” the mayor added.

The singer spoke out against the war in her social media accounts in March 2022. “A WAR is happening in Ukraine. A murderous and destructive war, every day civilians are dying and, most horrifically, children! I am a Ukrainian, I am a mother, my family and friends are now in Ukraine under shelling like millions of Ukrainians,” Ani Lorak wrote. She urged to stop “this pointless war that no one needs”.

Ani Lorak was born in Ukraine’s Chernivtsi region. In 2008, she represented her home country at the Eurovision Song Contest with Shady Lady and won second place.
