Navalny placed in solitary confinement for ‘improperly introducing himself’

Russian politician Alexey Navalny, who is serving his prison sentence in the Vladimir region, has been once again placed in a solitary confinement cell for “improperly introducing himself”. The punishment was not applied since January, the announcement was made via Navalny’s Twitter.

“Oh well, my luxurious and elite almost two-month stay in the “good” cell (with coffee and 2 books) was mercilessly interrupted, and I was sent back to the “bad” cell at the end of the hallway (with boiling water and 1 book),” the tweet reads. The politician added that he was placed in the solitary confinement cell for 15 days.

Navalny has been locked up for more than two years now. Apart from this case, he was punished with solitary confinement 11 times in the past. In February, the politician’s lawyer said that his client was transferred to cell-type premises for the maximum possible term of six months. The lawyer also added that Navalny had been given “huge” amounts of antibiotics, resulting in stomach complications and weight loss of 7 kg.

In January, Navalny fell ill while in solitary confinement. He then noted that the prison authorities had transferred a convict who previously was in the medical ward for flu and Covid patients to his cell for the fifth time. The prison administration refused to hospitalise him and rejected attempts to deliver medicine for the politician.
