The wars of the 21st century have been the most documented events in history.
We’ve seen that in Iraq, Palestine, Syria. In 2014, and then in 2022, hundreds of photo reporters from all over the world travelled to the war zone in Ukraine to document what is happening: for the history books and for The Hague court.
This is the first episode in the series “Eyes of War”. Photographers from different countries will talk to us about the war in Ukraine through the lens of their camera and through their own eyes. How did the war affect our heroes? How did they prepare for the trip that could have been their last one? What stories hide behind their shots? This is what our project is about.
The hero of our first episode is Daniil Russov, a photographer from Ukraine. This is his first war. A war right on his doorstep. Izium, Bakhmut, Kharkiv: Daniil wasn’t sure about documenting this hell at first, but his friends convinced him he should do it. This video tells his story.
