State of emergency declared in Crimea’s Dzhankoi after overnight drone attack

A municipal level state of emergency has been announced in the town of Dzhankoi in the north of Crimea after an overnight drone attack, head of the town administration Igor Ivin says.

He adds that a 33-year-old man was injured and a private building and a shop were damaged in the drone attack. The man was hospitalised with a shrapnel wound. According to Ivin, drone debris was discovered in two streets of the town.

Advisor to the head of Crimea Oleg Kryuchkov claims that all the drones were targeting civilian facilities. “Aside from the explosives, each drone contained shrapnel — they wanted to make Crimeans pay for their choice. A particular cynicism, to try and strike against civilian facilities while drawing Internet memes on the wings of the drones shot down by air defence,” he writes in a Telegram post.

According to Kryuchkov, the railway and infrastructure were not damaged, the trains are running on schedule.

Krychkov called the information shared by the Ukrainian intelligence about the explosion in Dzhankoi destroying cruise missiles Kalibr that were being transported by railway at that moment “the clowns’ wet fantasies”. Furthermore, Kyiv neither confirms nor denies its involvement in the alleged strike.

Russia’s Investigative Committee declared that it was investigating the circumstances of the attack. “According to preliminary data, the UAV debris damaged a household and a shop; one person was injured. Civilian facilities were the target of all shot down drones,” the state agency claims.
