Ukraine’s intelligence confirms death of Kherson region detention facility chief who was collaborating with Russian occupation ‘authorities’

In the Kherson region of Ukraine, Serhiy Moskalenko, the chief of the regional pre-trial detention centre who was collaborating with the Russian occupation “government”, has been killed, the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reports.

He was 45. “[Moskalenko] was a resident of Nova Kakhovka and the owner of the local security firm. During the occupation, he agreed to collaborate with Russians and was appointed as the so-called chief of a pre-trial detention centre where Ukrainian prisoners were subjected to inhuman torture,” the statement reads.

Local media previously reported that the car that belonged to Moskalenko had been blown up in the village Yuvileine, Kherson region, on 17 March. Russia’s Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case.

According to the Russian committee, on 17 March an “unidentified person” planted an explosive device under the left wing of Moskalenko’s car. Later in the day, the blast killed the man, while his wife and daughter were injured.

Ukrainian media previously reported that Moskalenko had agreed to work with the Russian occupation “government” in May 2022. On 29 September, the Kherson regional prosecutor’s office accused him of collaboration activities — “voluntarily accepting a position in an illegal law enforcement body, created on temporarily occupied territory”.
