Ukraine authorities: Russia attacks country with missiles, drones. Woman killed in Dnipro region

The Russian army launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine at night, firing 32 missiles at the country, the Ukrainian air force reports.

“In the early hours of 16 February, the Russian occupation troops launched a large-scale missile strike on critical infrastructure facilities. <…> Unfortunately, some X-22 cruise missiles struck their targets,” the press release reads.

It is noted that 12 missiles were launched from the Caspian Sea, eight more were fired from a Black Sea frigate, while another 12 missiles travelled from near Kursk. Moreover, two guided aviation missiles were launched from a location near Melitopol.

According to the official information, 16 missiles were intercepted.

Natalya Humenyuk, spokeswoman for South Operational Command, said that the attack was “mixed” in nature as both missiles and drones were used.

“Air defence systems in the south worked very well: all eight missiles were downed. Six over the Mykolaiv region, two more over the Kherson region. <…> We know that there are strikes in the Lviv region,” she said.

Head of the Lviv region Maxim Kozitsky reported that a critical infrastructure facility had been damaged in the attack. According to him, a fire started at the site but it was put out. Kozitsky says no one was injured or killed.

One person was killed, seven more were injured in Pavlohrad, Dnipro region, governor Serhiy Lysak noted.

“At 3 AM when people were peacefully sleeping in their homes the enemy fired missiles at the city. A 79-year-old woman died. Preliminary reports suggest that seven people were injured,” he wrote.

Two people were rushed to hospitals in moderate condition, Lysak reports. According to him, an industrial building was also damaged, a fire broke out but was promptly extinguished. Moreover, seven houses were destroyed, 30 more were damaged.

Reports of a strike on an infrastructure facility are also coming from Ukraine’s Kirovohrad region. According to regional Governor Andriy Raykovych, the Kropyvnytsky district was targeted. “Emergency response services are working at the site. No one was killed,” he said.

Air raid sirens were sounding off in Ukraine last night. Air defence systems were intercepting targets in Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, and Dnipro regions. Explosions were heard in Kremenchuk.
