Putin signs law on collection of genomic data being compulsory for all suspects, including ones in administrative cases

Russian President Vladimir has signed a law on collecting genomic data from all people convicted, suspected, and accused of committing crimes, as well as those who are placed under an administrative arrest. The corresponding document was posted on the official Russian legislature website.

Thus, the law expands the instances when a DNA analysis is done. Currently, it is only conducted on people convicted of committing grave and especially grave crimes as well as any crimes against sexual inviolability.

The law clarifies that in case of rehabilitation convicts can demand their DNA data be removed from the database.

According to the document, the Investigative Committee will be responsible for conducting genomic registration.
