US to declare PMC Wagner ‘transnational criminal organisation’

The White House has announced its plans to designate the Russian PMC Wagner Group as a “transnational criminal organisation” next week, CNN cites John Kirby, the National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications.

Companies connected to PMC Wagner will also be sanctioned, Kirby says.

“Finally now, PMC Wagner and the Americans are colleagues. From now on, our relationship can be described as ‘having it out between two criminal clans,” Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the mercenary group, said on the matter.

Politico reported yesterday that PMC Wagner significantly expanded its mining projects in the Central African Republic last year, potentially boosting its annual revenue to $1 billion. The mercenary group is most likely to use the money to recruit fighters and purchase weapons.
