RT France to fold due to blocked bank accounts

RT France, a Russian state-controlled TV channel, has announced it has stopped operation, TASS cites Ksenia Fyodorova, the channel’s editor-in-chief.

“Our channel’s bank accounts have been frozen by order of the French Ministry of Economics and Finance. We can no longer continue our operation,” she wrote on Twitter.

A statement on the channel’s website says its work is no longer possible due to the freezing of accounts. “123 French employees, including 77 journalists, today risk not being paid their January salary and will lose their jobs,” reads the statement.

Le Monde reported that RT France’s accounts had been blocked on 19 January. Russia’s foreign Ministry responded, saying that these actions would “trigger retaliatory measures against French media in Russia”.
