A tactical flight military exercise has started in Belarus, involving Belarusian and Russian units, the Belarusian Defence Ministry reports. A military formation of Russia’s aerospace forces is taking part in the exercise.
The Belarusian Defense Ministry said that during the exercise it is planned to train aerial reconnaissance, joint patrols along the border, air support for a group of troops, tactical landing, as well as the delivery of goods and the evacuation of the wounded.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka, the winner of the 2020 Belarusian presidential election according to the national election commission, visited a training range in the country’s Brest region which houses a Russian military division on 6 January. “We are doing a common thing,” Lukashenka said.
Putin and Lukashenka had a meeting in December which resulted in a statement declaring the creation of a “unified defence space”.
