Local authorities: Ukrainian drone taken down on approach to Russia’s Voronezh

A drone launched from the territory of Ukraine has been shot down on its approach to the city of Voronezh, the authorities of Russia’s Voronezh region say.

“In the night, air defence systems discovered and took down a small-sized reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle on its approach to Voronezh. It was launched from the territory of Ukraine,” the regional authorities report.

No one was hurt, there was no damage on the ground, they add.

Russian and Ukrainian Telegram channels previously wrote that air defence systems were activated in the area of the military airfield Baltimore, located in Voronezh. Sukhoi Su-34 fighter bombers are stationed on this airfield.

In the early hours of 2 January, a loud explosion was reported in Voronezh. According to local media, it could be heard in all districts of the city. However, according to the local Emergency Ministry, no reports of any explosions came in at that time, and no incidents were occurring.

Earlier today, governor of the Bryansk region Alexander Bogomaz reported that a drone attacked a district of the Bryansk city in the morning of 2 January. According to the official, no one was hurt. Still, an energy facility was damaged in the attack, and a village in the region was left without electricity, Bogomaz said.
