Benedict XVI, the retired prelate of the Catholic Church, passed away at the age of 95, the Holy See Press Office reports.

He died in his residence at the Vatican’s Mater Ecclesiae Monastery. For the last several days, the press office has been reporting that his health conditions was worsening due to advancing age.
Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger) ascended to the papacy in 2005 after the passing of Pope John Paul II.
In February 2013, Benedict XVI announced that he would give up the papacy due to his worsening health.
Soon, the new head of the Catholic Church was elected — Jorge Bergoglio, known as Pope Francis.
