Debris of unidentified flying objects have fallen from the sky in Russia’s Volgograd region, the media outlet V1 says, posting photos taken by locals and shared online.
Some of the fragments were found in a field, the rest have hit a barn. A video recorded by a local resident shows another “unidentified object” flying in the sky, resembling a missile.
“It’s the third missile in a row, it’s a genuine missile!” a man says in the video.
The regional Emergency Ministry HQ has refused to comment on the matter and suggested that journalists contact the Defence Ministry. Reporters have noted that the footage also shows personnel of Rosseti South, a power supply company, at the scene.
Alexey Golev, the local village head, reported the fragments falling in the Yelansky district of the Volgograd region.
“Luckily, no casualties. This happened around nine in the morning. Something fell in the fields, and something hit a private plot of land, damaging a barn. We have yet to identify the fragments. The area has been taped off, and we are awaiting for the military to arrive,” he said.
The local district administration has confirmed the falling of “metallic objects” from the sky in a talk with RBC.
“The 112 emergency phone number service received a report of metallic objects falling from the sky in the Yelansky district on 16 December in the morning. The information has been provided to the local Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and other agencies. The police are guarding the area. No one was injured in the incident, and no damage was caused to socially significant infrastructure,” the statement reads.
V1 also received confirmation from the local emergency services that something had actually fallen from the sky, although “nobody knows yet” what exactly the flying thing was.
Reporters believe that the debris shown in the video visually resemble an AS-23 KODIAK, a long-range cruise missile of the Х-101 / Х-102 family.
