The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported that 2 residents of Crimea’s Sevastopol have been arrested in a high treason case that involves alleged handover of military facility information to Kyiv, Interfax reports, citing the FSB statement.
One Sevastopol resident “being a supporter of the Ukrainian ideology was recruited by the Ukrainian Security Service in 2016”, the FSB claims. According to the service, he was paid to communicate information about military facility locations to Ukraine “which could be used against Russia’s security and affect national defence capabilities”.
The FSB also claims that he involved another local man “in these illegal actions”. The other man was handing over information about the FSB facilities via WhatsApp.
The 2 men are now facing up to 20 years in prison.
On 7 December, the news emerged that FSB investigators had indicted land surveyor scientist Valery Kachin for high treason. He was transferred to Moscow for interrogation and investigation purposes. Kachin’s time in custody has been extended by another 3 months.
