Almost 14,000 people remain with no heating at —30°C after heat pipeline breaks down in Russia’s Novosibirsk

Almost 14 thousand people have been left with no heating in Russia’s Novosibirsk due to a heating pipeline breakdown, the temperature outside being —30°C, says NGS.ru.

A total of 83 residential buildings home to 13,947 people were left with no heating, the local Emergence Ministry says. Five kindergartens and four medical facilities are also in the breakdown area. One of those facilities is a hospital where patients stay overnight, says NGS.ru, electric heaters are being used there now.

A total of 32 people and 13 units of equipment are involved in repairing the pipeline, the Ministry says. Novosibirsk mayor Anatoly Lokot and deputy governor Sergey Syomka are supervising the situation, the agency notes.

Residents of Novosibirsk told Tayga.info that they sleep in sweaters. One of them noted that heating issues started on 30 October.

“It is very cold in the apartment, the temperature near the floor is 15°C. We are wearing sweaters, warm pants and woollen socks. It used to be very hot in recent years, sometimes people would turn the heating off and open their windows. We called the control room three times requesting to restart the heating, but nothing has changed. Our request has been active since 18 November, and we filed another one on 28 November. When the dispatcher redirects us to the housing department, they pick up the phone and hang up. This happened four times in a row, and now the dispatcher has registered a new request,” the local resident says.

Another resident wrote: “It feels like the parameters have been reduced compared to previous years, we are freezing. The temperature in the apartment is clearly below 20 degrees.”

A total of 270 apartment blocks home to 70,000 residents were left with no heating due to a heating pipeline breakdown in Abakan a few days ago, the temperature outside being —21°C.
