Local authorities: at least one person killed in overnight shelling of Zaporizhzhia city

At least one person has been killed in the shelling carried out by Russia’s troops in the early hours of the day in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration Oleksandr Starukh and secretary of the Zaporizhzhia city council Anatolii Kurtiev report.

“Enemy fire has destroyed a civilian infrastructure building, and according to the preliminary data, unfortunately, claimed a person’s life,” Kurtiev’s post reads.

UPDATE 12:39pm

Ukraine’s national public broadcaster Suspilne has posted footage of the aftermath of the shelling in the city; it reports that the 45-year-old son of the commercial enterprise’s owner was killed in the attack.

Starukh also writes that one person was killed; he specifies that a two-storey building belonging to a commercial enterprise was destroyed in the shelling.

During the night, Kurtiev reported that Russian forces had been shelling a residential area, without clarifying which one. As a result, a fire erupted in the area, he added.

“A big fire was extinguished by our firemen,” Starukh said in the morning.

Both representatives of Ukraine’s authorities also reported that the blast wave had blown out windows in buildings that are located near the shelling areas.
