Media: contract serviceman drives into convoy of conscripts at training ground in Russia’s Arkhangelsk region; two people killed, 11 injured

A military KAMAZ truck has driven into a convoy of conscripts at a training ground in Russia’s Arkhangelsk region, not far from the city of Mirny, Baza, ASTRA and 29.ru media outlets report.

“At about 7 PM [yesterday], Israpil Abkherdilayev, 22, got behind the wheel of a KAMAZ truck and drove into a convoy of conscripts. One conscript was killed instantly, the other died in the hospital. Eleven people were taken to a military hospital in the city of Mirny,” ASTRA reports.

Sources of 29.RU confirmed that two people had been killed, the rest were hospitalised with minor injuries.

ASTRA notes that the incident took place at a training ground belonging to Military Unit 13973, located in a closed area. The district administration told 29.RU that they are aware of the incident. Other official bodies did not respond to the media outlet’s request for comment.

Baza and ASTRA report that the causes of the incident are unknown. “Military investigators are already working on the case,” Baza added.
