Son of Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman says sanctions against him unfair as he is against the war in Ukraine and considers himself Ukrainian

Alexander Ozhelskiy, 22, the son of Russian billionaire and co-founder of Alfa Group Mikhail Friedman, posted a video address on YouTube in which he says that he does not support the war in Ukraine and thinks the sanctions against him are unfair.

“I cannot believe that my position regarding the war wasn’t even taken into consideration. And I can’t believe that the sole reason for these sanctions is my relation to another person. I don’t understand how this is possible in the 21st century. <…> I think that this decision should be overturned. I do not deserve these sanctions. I consider myself Ukrainian, I have multiple relatives there, and I used to come visit every other year,” Ozhelskiy said.

Ozhelskiy is currently renting a flat in Dubai. “As you can see, I don’t live in a fucking mansion, because I live with the means that I have. I don’t understand why this is happening and why everything I have done until now is put at risk by a bunch of fucking bureaucrats,” the billionaire’s son said.

Several days ago, the Norwegian police detained Andrey Yakunin, the son of the former head of Russian Railways, for using drones, which Russians are forbidden from doing on the territory of Norway according to its laws on sanctions. Yakunin was placed in custody for two weeks. Two drones and electronic devices were seized from Yakunin, they are currently being inspected. In early 2022, he spoke out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine and said he had never voted for Putin.
