‘I pray every day for my country to end this war’: Russian musician Zemfira makes anti-war speech in Limassol

Russian musician Zemfira made an anti-war speech at her concert in Limassol, Cyprus, on 9 October. It was her first concert of the European tour in support of her album Borderline. The video was published by CHTD Telegram channel.

“Today is the 228th day of the war. The 228th day of hell turned reality. I have thought a lot over this time, had conversations with myself about it. I don’t like talking on stage and I don’t know how to. But I pray every day for this war to end, for my country to stop this war,” the singer said before performing her song Ne Strelyayte (Don’t Shoot).

On 24 February, the day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Zemfira performed a solo concert in Moscow for the first time in five years. On the same day, the musician published the No to War sign on her website and social media. After her second concert in Moscow 26 February, the singer left Russia. In March, Zemfira posted a music video to the song Don’t Shoot, including footage of the war in Ukraine. In the run-up to her European tour, she released an album Zemfira of Luke, in which she also mentions the war.
