FSB detains man in Saint Petersburg, suspects him of attempted terror attack

Russia’s FSB has detained Maksim Asriyan, 26, a male nurse, in the Pulkovo airport in Saint Petersburg. He is suspected of attempting an act of terrorism, Mediazona reports.

Asriyan’s wife has told Sota that her husband was detained on Friday as he was boarding a flight to Sochi. He told his wife he was suspected of attempted terrorism.

He was “spotted near a conscription office, climbing over the fence, ”Fontanka and 47news report, although he wasn’t witnessed doing anything illegal. He was later taken to a police station where police officers went through his phone and found instructions on how to rig explosives to a railroad track. Moreover, vessels filled with petroleum were confiscated from him.

“He does not deny neither his conscription office episode, nor the intentions to blow up a railroad track,” Fontanka says.

A 17-year-old man from Rybinsk was given four years of suspended sentence with a four-year probation for two charges of making explosives, two charges of illegal storing and carrying of explosives, and calls for extremist activities on the Internet on Friday.
