Drafted man dies in his sleep at command school in Russia’s Novosibirsk

A mobilised man has died in his sleep at a higher military command school in Russia’s Novosibirsk, local news outlet ngs.ru reports, citing regional human rights commissioner Nina Shalabayeva.

“One person has died. In his sleep. The authorities are currently working on the scene. We need to find out the cause of death,” the commissioner said.

As of now, the age of the deceased man and the circumstances of his death are unknown. Shalabeyeva did not provide the name of the mobilised man either.

NEFT and 72.ru news portals wrote, citing a source in the law enforcement, that another drafted man had died at an assembly point in the Tyumen region. According to the media, the man’s body was found on 28 September. Regional human rights commissioner Sergey Minevtsev has stated that he is not aware of the incident. The prosecutor’s office, the military investigations department, and the Ministry of Defence did not respond to the journalists’ requests for comment.

It was reported earlier today that three drafted men had died at an army training centre located in the settlement of Poroshino in Russia’s Yekaterinburg region. “One of the mobilised men died from a heart attack, another one committed suicide. The third one was discharged and sent home, where he died from cirrhosis of the liver,” Russian State Duma MP Maxim Ivanov said.
