Plane catches fire at Belbek military airfield — Sevastopol’s governor

An “extraordinary situation” has occurred at the Belbek military airfield — a plane has allegedly caught fire, Sevastopol’s governor Mikhail Razvozhayev writes on his Telegram channel.

“According to the rescuers, the plane skidded off the runway and caught fire during landing. Currently, firemen are operating on the site,” his post reads.

Photos and videos that show pillars of black smoke have been posted on local Telegram channels. In some of them, detonation of shells is visible.

In August, local citizens reported to have heard the sounds of explosions in Crimea’s city of Kerch and near the Belbek military airfield in Sevastopol. Back then, Razvozhayev claimed that a UAV had been shot down by an air defence system in the area of the airfield.
