Moscow’s drafted men report to have been enlisted in Moscow Territorial Defence Forces

Men drafted in Moscow have reported to have been enlisted in the Moscow Territorial Defence Forces, says head of the Agora human rights group Pavel Chikov.

According to the Russian federal law “On Defence”, territorial forces are created during martial law. Martial law is declared via a presidential decree, notes the human rights defender. Currently, no such decree exists. Territorial defence forces are supposed to operate in the territory of the Russian Federation or in the regions where martial law has been declared.

Territorial defence forces, among other things, are supposed to safeguard and protect servicemen, important state objects, special facilities, and facilities providing the support of the population, as well as ensure the operation of public transport, communication systems, etc.
