OSCE employee sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment over high treason charges in ‘LPR’

“The Supreme Court” of the self-proclaimed Luhansk “people’s republic” has sentenced Dmitry Shabanov, a security assistant of the Kadiivka (also known as Stakhanov) Forward Patrol Base of the OSCE SMM to Ukraine, to 13 years of imprisonment over high treason charges, reports Russia’s state news agency RIA Novosti.

“The Judicial Panel has ruled that Dmitry Shabanov was to be found guilty of committing a crime under Article 335 of the ‘LPR’ Criminal Code and appointed a punishment of a 13-years-long imprisonment,” the judge declared.

In April, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) reported that several employees of its Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) had gone missing in Ukraine’s east. Before, both the Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republics” banned SMM’s operations on their territories.

The Special Monitoring Mission began its work in Ukraine after the start of hostilities in Donbas in 2014. The mission was tasked with documenting violations and incidents as well as conducting efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
