Concerts of Russian rock band Splean cancelled in two more cities following frontman’s anti-war statements

The concert of Russian rock band Splean planned for 17 September at a festival in Volgograd has been cancelled, the organising committee of ParkSeason Fest reports.

“Splean will not perform at the upcoming festival on 17 September 2022. We will announce later whether the band will be able to take part in the 2023 festival. The organising committee apologises for the inconvenience; however, we are unable to influence the situation,” the statement reads.

The band’s concert in Svetlagorsk, planned for 11 November, was also cancelled, the Yantar Hall concert venue reports. The statement does not specify the reasons behind the cancellation.

It was reported on Tuesday that Splean had been forced to cancel the concert at a festival in Moscow planned for 26 August. “It is already clear,” he said when asked to comment on the situation.

Earlier, at a concert in Russia’s Voronezh, Vasilyev said: “It’s good to see so many people that still have mercy, compassion, humanity, those who reject cruelty, violence and murder. In these black nights, even the songs played in a major key sound sad.”

Then, in the run-up to the band’s hit song Vykhoda Net (No Way Out), Vasilyev expressed hope that other Russian bands that were forced to leave the country would come back. “We will perform for you here, in Voronezh, because we have no other way out,” the musician added. The video of Splean’s performance was later deleted from the festival’s website.
