The property of Irina Fatianova, ex-chief of Navalny’s Saint Petersburg headquarters, has been arrested to compensate the 3.9 million rubles (€65,000) she “owes” to the police agents that had worked during protests in support of Navalny, the money a court had previously ordered her to pay, reports Russian outlet Fontanka, citing the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs.
“In the near future, the directorate’s lawyers intend to launch the procedure of compensation for the caused damage that will involve court bailiffs and dispose of Fatianova’s property, in case she does not execute the court decision voluntarily,” the government agency told Fontanka.
Fatianova clarified that the court proceedings have yet to end, seeing as she plans to appeal in the Cassation Court. “I love learning these things from the news while drinking my morning coffee. One thing, though, is that I don’t have any property,” she wrote in a tweet.
In April, a Saint Petersburg District Court ordered Fatianova to pay 3.9 million rubles (€65,000) for the work of police agents during the protests in support of politician Alexey Navalny that had taken place on 23 and 31 January of 2021. The activist appealed the decision in the City Court. The court reviewed the appeals on 23 August and did not rule in Fatianova’s favour.
In January 2021, thousands of people protested in support of Navalny all over Russa. In many cities, including Saint Petersburg, police agents used force to break up the demonstrators.
