9 killed, 35 injured in a missile strike on Ukraine's Kharkiv

Kharkiv’s Saltivka district has been targeted by a missile strike that has left 7 locals dead and 17 more injured, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported.

“All the injured people have already been rushed to hospitals where they are getting all the necessary help they need,” Terekhov said.

One man is in critical condition, the others are in moderate condition.

An 11-year-old child is among those who have died.

Ukraine’s emergency service notes that a three-storey residential building has been completely destroyed by the missile strike. A fire broke out in the building, but it was localised at around midnight.

The rescue operation is ongoing with doctors on site.

Kharkiv was targeted by more missile strikes early in morning.

“The first one hit at 4:32 a.m., then there were at least four more missile strikes on Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi and Kholodnohirskyi districts. A fire started in one of the places where a missile landed,” the mayor said.

He noted that since “there were at least five explosions, there could be more places affected by the strikes.”

According to Oleh Synyehubov, Governor of the Kharkiv region, a missile struck a dormitory in the Slobidskyi district. According to preliminary reports, 2 persons died and 18 more were injured, including 2 children.

A major fire broke out in the Kholodnohirskyi district after the strike, an administrative building is ablaze. The emergency service reports that it has started to collapse. Around 15 cars parked around it are also on fire, Terekhov added.

Local authorities have also reported that the Dnipropetrovsk region’s Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol districts were targeted in the morning.

The Apostolovska community has been hit by Uragan MLRS, Head of the Military Administration of Kryvyi Rih Oleksandr Vilkul said.

“The enemy fired 15 barrel artillery projectiles to strike Nikopol. A woman, 57, was injured. She is in hospital,” a spokesperson for the authorities said.

15 residential buildings, a school, cars, a shop and a church are damaged in the city. According to Vilkul, a few gas pipelines and electric transmission lines are affected as well. Emergency repair works are ongoing.
