Russia and Iran to sign agreement on exporting Iranian aircraft parts and repairing Russian aircraft

Russia and Iran have agreed to sign a cooperation agreement on exporting Iranian aircraft parts and equipment to Russia and Iran providing maintenance for Russian aircraft, declared the representative of Iranian Civil Aviation Organisation Mir-Akbar Razavi, reports Iranian news agency MEHR.

The document establishes the procedure of “providing the possibility of exporting parts and equipment manufactured in Iran to Russia as well as carrying out repair and maintenance services and technical support of Russian aircraft by Iran’s repair centres”, adds the agency.

Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed, according to which the number of passenger flights between Iran and Russian will be increased up to 35 per week, reports MEHR.

At the end of May, Bloomberg disclosed that Russian airlines had supplies to last three months.

After the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing ceased the maintenance and support of Russian airlines and stopped deliveries of spare parts, as did the European manufacturer Airbus. Furthermore, the UK, US, EU, and other countries introduced restrictions on Russian airlines’ flights. The European Union, among other things, imposed sanctions on the Russian aviation industry.

In the middle of July, Jake Sullivan, the United States National Security Advisor to the President, declared that the Iranian government was preparing to “provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs, including weapons-capable UAVs on an expedited timeline”. Russian and Iranian representatives deny these claims. Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran “wouldn’t help either side” during the war between Russia and Ukraine.
