Russia adds Greece, Slovakia, Croatia, Denmark, and Slovenia to Unfriendly Countries List

The Russian government has expanded the List of Unfriendly Countries of Russia, it now includes Greece, Slovakia, Croatia, Denmark, and Slovenia.

“The decree presupposes limitations down to a total ban on unfriendly countries being able to hire employees from among people that are currently present in the territory of Russia to work in embassies, consulates, and government agencies,” reads the decree.

Slovenia and Croatia were completely prohibited from hiring new employees for its diplomatic missions and to work in its consulate agencies. Greece is allowed to hire up to 34 people, Denmark — up to 20, Slovakia — up to 16.

In May 2021, similar restrictions were introduced towards the diplomatic missions of the US and the Czech Republic.

The government approved the list of countries conducting “unfriendly activities” towards Russia at the beginning of March 2022. The list included 48 countries, including the EU countries, Australia, Andorra, the UK, Island, Canada, South Korea, Norway, Ukraine, and others.

At the end of March, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed that gas deliveries to unfriendly countries be paid for only in rubles.
