Belarus adds Euroradio to list of ‘extremist formations’

The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs has included Euroradio in the list of “extremist formations”, the information is available in the updated list published on the ministry’s website.

The list also includes the radio’s social media accounts, YouTube channel, and the informal channel Euroгadio.

The ministry claims that “a group of citizens united under the name “Еўрарадыё | Euroradio” are conducting extremist activity” and using Internet resources to do so.

Euroradio (European radio for Belarus) has been active since 2005. It was founded by Belarusian journalists that did not have connections to pro-government media. Euroradio’s correspondent's unit in Minsk was closed in 2021.

The country’s authorities started to include independent Belarusian media in the list of “extremists” after the presidential elections of 2020 that saw the country erupt into mass protests against falsification of the results and law enforcement violence. In particular, Tut.by, Zerkalo.io, Internet resources of Radio Liberty, and many others were included in the “extremist” list.
