Prosecutor requests five years in prison for Open Russia’s Andrey Pivovarov

The prosecutor has requested a punishment of five years in prison for Andrey Pivovarov, a Russian politician, over “undesired organisation” charges, Pivovarov’s team reports on Telegram.

“This is an inadequate punishment for Andrey’s political activity which was absolutely legal. Pivovarov’s case is a 100% frameup; the authorities are punishing him for trying to be elected as an MP, for his political activitiesб and his stance,” reads the statement.

Pivovarov was detained in Saint Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport on 31 May 2021 when he was boarding a flight to Warsaw, going on a vacation. A criminal procedure was initiated against him for his Facebook post “campaigning in support of “an undesired organisation.” He has been kept in custody in a pre-detention facility for over a year.
