Safronov’s lawyer Dmitry Talantov detained in Udmurtia

The President of the Chamber of Lawyers of Udmurtia Dmitry Talantov was detained in Udmurtia in relation to “fake news” about the Russian Army, he himself wrote on his Facebook page.

The lawyer added that he was handcuffed and being brought to the Investigation Committee. The Lawyer Community Pervy Otdel clarified in a Telegram post that Talantov was detained shortly before his flight to Moscow.

Later, the Telegram channel Freedom to Safronov!, citing the Investigation Committee, reported that Talantov was charged in relation to a criminal case. Lawyer Eugeniy Smirnov clarified that the case was opened according to the article about “fake news” about the Russian army.

There are four searches currently ongoing, writes Pervy Otdel.

Talantov is the lawyer of the journalist Ivan Safronov, who has been in the pre-trial detention facility Lefortovo since July 2020. Ex-reporter of the Russian newspaper Kommersant Safronov is being accused of transferring classified secret information to the Czech intelligence—the investigation claims that he had handed information about the military collaborations, defence, and security of the Russian Federation. Until the end of the investigation, the Federal Security Service refused to share details about the case even with the defence.
