Estonian Defence Ministry: Russia simulated missile strikes on Estonia during exercises

Russia is currently conducting military exercises, during which a simulation of missile strikes on the territory of Estonia took place, said Estonian Defence Ministry Permanent Secretary Kusti Salm to Finnish newspaper Iltalehti.

He added that Russian helicopters violated Baltic states’ borders several times. “Russian helicopters committed several violations of the borders. This isn’t a vessel being located fifty miles from the coast, or planes in the distance, we are talking about helicopters. A helicopter can’t accidentally violate a border,” he stated.

The day before, Russian Ambassador to Estonia Vladimir Lipaev was summoned to the Estonian Foreign Ministry. He was presented a note over the violation of Estonia’s airspace by a Russian helicopter on 18 June. The ministry specified that the violation took place in south-eastern Estonia near the Koidula checkpoint.
