Yeltsin Centre deletes anti-war statement due to pressure from law enforcement

Yekaterinburg’s Boris Yeltsin Presidential Centre has removed the 25 February anti-war statement from its website upon request of the law enforcement, reports the local media outlet It’s My City, citing the press office of the centre.

The webpage that hosted the statement has been deleted — now only “404 error” appears. The journalists from It's My City noted that the last time the statement was visible was on 1 April, judging by the web archive.

“Yeltsin Centre said that the post was removed upon request from the law enforcement. They didn’t specify what exactly, according to the officials, was the problem with the statement,” informs the media outlet.

On 25 February Yekaterinburg’s Yeltsin Centre posted a statement asking for an immediate end of the war in Ukraine.

“On 24 February, 2022, our country made a decision to conduct a special military operation in Ukraine. In 1991 Russia and Ukraine, together, chose their own destinies—renouncing the USSR’s legacy, they started a difficult path towards the community of civilised countries, democracy, and market economy. Now, 30 years later, Russia and Ukraine are on the opposite sides of the frontlines. This is an unthinkable tragedy for both countries and their people. Recognising the responsibility on our shoulders, as citizens of a more powerful side of this fratricidal conflict, we ask for an immediate end of the warfare,” the statement read.
