Two districts in the northeast of Ukraine’s capital were shelled by Russia early this morning, says Vitali Klitschko, Kyiv’s mayor. One person was injured and is now undergoing medical treatment.
This is the first attack on Kyiv in more than a month. It was last shelled on 28 April when António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, was in the city. Several people were injured and a high-rise block was partially destroyed.
The Donetsk region was also shelled last night. Two industrial facilities suffered significant damage in Kramatorsk, says Oleksandr Honcharenko, the local mayor. Luckily, no civilians were hurt.
The city of Donetsk, controlled by the so-called “DPR”, reported shelling, too. Five people were killed and 20 were injured, says Aleksei Kulemzin, the self-proclaimed mayor. Several buildings were damaged; Kulemzin claims all of them were schools or kindergartens.
A total of 2,503 missiles have attacked Ukraine since the start of the war as of 4 June, the country’s president Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday.
