Russian football vlogger and club owner leaves country over anti-war video

Former Russia U21 player and currently vlogger Yevgeny Savin who owns Krasava FC (Russian 3rd tier) has left the country after publishing a long video on his YouTube channel where he spoke to several notable Ukrainian footballers, including West Ham’s Andriy Yarmolenko, Everton’s Vitaly Mykolenko and former Ukraine national team players Andriy Voronin and Oleksandr Aliyev. The video was entitled “Yarmolenko. The War. Speechless Russian Players”.

“After publishing an anti-war video on his YouTube, Krasava FC chairman Yevgeny Savin left the country,” says the club’s YouTube channel. Savin also confirmed he had left Russia as he spoke to Novaya Gazeta Europe.

The aforementioned video was released on 18 April and featured several notable Ukrainian footballers, as well as Darijo Srna, Shakhtar Donetsk Director of Football. The video was Savin’s anti-war statement. After the video was released, Savin faced a hate campaign from his ex-colleagues and employees of MatchTV, Russia’s state-owned sports TV channel. Moreover, his Krasava FC was denied training ground in Krasnogorsk near Moscow.
