Pro-Russian ‘government’ of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region announces its plans to be incorporated into Russia

The pro-Russian ‘government’ of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region announced its plans to become a part of Russia. Volodymyr Rohov, who calls himself a member of “the main council of the military-civil administration”, shared this information with Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

“We don’t need grey zones, we don’t need a Zaporizhzhia people’s republic. We want to be a part of Russia, like we had been for many years before,” he stated.

Rohov also stated that the part of the Zaporizhzhia region currently occupied by the Russian forces had adopted the Russian ruble along with the Ukrainian hryvnia. “People can pay both in hryvnias and in rubles. All allowances will be paid in rubles,” he said.

Currently, only the southern part of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region is occupied by the Russian forces.

The occupied Kherson region switched to the ruble zone from 1 May. Pro-Russian activist Kirill Stremousov, who calls himself the deputy head of the new “military-civil administration” of the region, said that the transition period would last for up to four months, with both ruble and Ukraine’s hryvnia used in this period. He also announced the region’s plans to be incorporated into Russia. The official added that there would be no referendums on the creation of the so-called “Kherson people’s republic.”
