Moscow court fines Wikipedia’s parent company over Ukraine War articles

Moscow’s Tagansky court has fined Wikimedia Foundation 3 million rubles (€37,000) for refusing to remove five Wikipedia articles related to Russia’s invasion into Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports.

This is the first time a Russian court imposes a fine upon Wikimedia Inc. The company’s litigator has noted in court that Wikipedia allows everyone to edit its articles. “If the prosecutor believes that something is wrong about those articles, they could have signed up and made their own edit,” he said.

The Russian General Prosecutor's Office demanded that Wikimedia restricted five articles, including that on Russia’s invasion into Ukraine, Mariupol, Bucha, and Kyiv.
