State of emergency declared in Russia’s Bryansk region after drone strike on ammunition depot

A local state of emergency has been declared in western Russia’s Bryansk region, the Emergency Situations Ministry announced on Wednesday, following an overnight Ukrainian drone strike that reportedly caused explosives at an ammunition depot in the town of Karachev to detonate.

The Russian Defence Ministry reported that its air defence systems had intercepted 47 Ukrainian drones overnight, 24 of which it said had been shot down over the Bryansk region.

Regional Telegram channel Prigranichye Bryansk reported that a fire broke out followed by a series of explosions when an ammunition depot in the town of Karachev was attacked overnight, while Telegram channel Podslushano Bryansk reported that sirens had been heard in the town overnight.

The head of Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, said that the strike has targeted the 67th arsenal of Russia’s Main Missile and Artillery Directorate, where ammunition, including weapons provided by North Korea, and guided glide bombs, were being stored, some of which were being stored out in the open.

While Bryansk region Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed that some 24 Ukrainian drones had been downed over the region early on Wednesday morning, he did not comment directly on the attack on the ammunition depot itself.
