Fire at oil depot in Luhansk extinguished as Russia and Ukraine trade infrastructure attacks

A fire at an oil depot in the outskirts of the Russian-occupied city of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine has been successfully put out following a missile attack late on Tuesday, Russian state-owned news agency TASS reported on Wednesday. 

The head of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, Leonid Pasechnik, blamed the attack on the Ukrainian military, which he said had “struck a blow to peaceful Luhansk” and had shelled civilian objects in order to “compensate for its defeat on all fronts”.

Five oil depot staff members were injured and some areas of Luhansk were left without power, Pasechnik added.

The Russian military continued to bombard Ukraine with missile and drone strikes aimed at energy facilities in six Ukrainian regions overnight, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said in comments reported by BBC News Russian.

Galushchenko said that energy infrastructure was attacked in the Poltava, Kirovograd, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsia regions.
