Over 400 polling stations in the Russian Far East have reported a turnout of 100% on the first day of the Russian presidential election, independent media outlet Verstka reported on Friday.
About 17,000 people living in difficult-to-reach areas in the Far East have voted so far in the election, Verstka wrote, adding that polling stations had been set up on fishing boats and remote settlements.
Russians started heading to the polls on Friday morning as voting began in the presidential election spread over three days. All three politicians running against incumbent president Vladimir Putin are widely regarded as state-approved candidates, with Putin expected to secure another six-year presidential term after the election.
The Russian Central Election Commission said on Friday evening that voter turnout in the Russian presidential election had reached 25% as of 18:00 Moscow time.
