Regional authorities in Russia’s southwestern Kursk region on the border with Ukraine reported a fire at a mineral processing plant on Wednesday following a Ukrainian drone strike.
Kursk region Governor Roman Starovoyt later said that a second drone strike on the plant in the city of Zheleznogorsk had come as emergency services were at the scene extinguishing a fire from an earlier attack. He said that there were no casualties from either strike on the plant, which is one of Russia’s largest iron ore processing facilities.
In the neighbouring Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev said that three Ukrainian drones had been shot down and that no casualties had been reported. Russian Telegram channels reported that a military airfield and an oil depot had been the drones’ intended target.
In the neighbouring Belgorod region, which also borders Ukraine, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that a drone had been shot down after air raid sirens went off in the city of Belgorod.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine said that Russia had launched a total of 42 drones at various Ukrainian regions overnight, of which Ukrainian air defences downed 38. Authorities in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy reported that an unspecified number of people had been injured and that multiple buildings had been damaged in three separate strikes.
