Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief and Nobel Peace prize laureate Dmitry Muratov labelled ‘foreign agent’

Russia’s Ministry of Justice has added Dmitry Muratov, the chief editor of Novaya Gazeta and the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, to its register of “foreign agents”, the ministry revealed on Friday.

The agency believes Muratov participated in “creating and disseminating work produced by foreign agents and used foreign media to promote opinions that are aimed at forming a negative attitude towards Russia’s interior and foreign policy”.

Konstantin Sonin, an economist, was also added to the list. The Ministry of Justice believes he “appeared in foreign media as a respondent”.

Other entrants to the list of “foreign agents” were:
