Kyiv says Ukrainian forces liberated Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region
The Ukrainian army has liberated the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry announced.
Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said that the Ukrainian forces are moving southeast in the direction of Novoprokopivka and Ocheretuvate despite “the enemy’s fierce resistance”.
Earlier, Russian pro-war bloggers wrote about heavy fighting ongoing in the area.
Both the Russia-appointed governor of the Zaporizhzhia region Yevgeny Balitsky and the Ukrainian regional head Yury Malashko say that there is nothing left of the Robotyne village but destroyed buildings.
The Washington Post reported earlier in August citing military analysts that the Russian army has three lines of defence covering fortified cities in this area.
“It’s not just a question about whether Ukraine can breach one or two of them, but can they breach all three and have enough forces available after taking attrition to achieve something more significant like taking Tokmak or something beyond that,” military analyst Rob Lee told The Washington Post.
Tokmak is a key logistics point for the Russian army, IStories previously wrote.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggested earlier that the second line of Russian defence might be much weaker than the first due to a supposed lack of resources and insufficient unit rotation.
