The Ukraine war has now been raging for 538 days. Russia launched attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Lviv, Lutsk, and Khmelnytsky. A missile hit a residential building in Lviv, injuring people, while the Lutsk strike killed three.

A major explosion at a petrol station in Makhachkala, the capital of the southern Russian republic of Dagestan, has killed 35 people and injured over 100 others. At least three children are among the dead.

Russia’s Far Eastern Primorsky region has declared a state of emergency following serious flooding. Authorities have also issued a storm warning as a second typhoon is expected to strike the region.

Explosions rock the Ukrainian cities of Lviv, Lutsk, and Khmelnytsky. Residential building hit in Lviv, three killed in Lutsk

Explosions have rocked the Ukrainian cities of Lviv, Lutsk, and Khmelnytsky as they were struck by missile attacks overnight.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said that several residential buildings had been struck in the attacks that he blamed on the Russian military, with the top floors of one of the buildings catching fire, and residents being evacuated.

The head of the Lviv regional administration Maksym Kozytsky reported that missile debris had landed on blocks of flats, causing some injuries but that there had been no reports of fatalities. Missile debris also caused the ceiling of a hypermarket in the city to collapse.

Sadovyi noted that a missile destroyed a preschool in Lviv. He added that more than 100 buildings had been damaged across the city and more than 500 windows had been smashed. “Four people are receiving medical care. Their lives are not in danger. Fortunately, no one was killed,” he wrote.

Several people were injured when a Russian missile hit an industrial facility in the western Ukrainian city of Lutsk, Mayor Ihor Polishchuk reported. The head of the regional administration Yuriy Pohulyaiko said that the attack had killed three people. Elsewhere, the head of the Dnipro regional administration Serhiy Lysak said that an overnight attack by the Russian army on Dnipro caused a fire in an industrial facility. Preliminary reports suggest that two people were injured, one of them was taken to hospital.

Emergency workers are currently clearing the rubble in search of the injured people at the site.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into the explosion. Investigators believe that the explosion, which also damaged nearby buildings and cars, was caused after a fire broke out at a Nafta-24 petrol station in northern Makhachkala on Monday evening at around 9:50 PM.

The region declared Tuesday a day of mourning. 

Storm warning issued in Russia’s Far East as second typhoon forecast

The governor of Russia’s Primorsky region has announced a region-wide state of emergency following serious flooding caused by Typhoon Khanun that led to the evacuation of around 2,800 people late last week .

The regional authorities have also issued a storm warning over the approach of a second typhoon.

“The latest calculations show that the LAN typhoon will pass closer to the eastern coast of the region, heading south of Sakhalin rather than Hokkaido. As predicted earlier, its impact on the weather of the Primorsky region will be significant, the greatest impact will be felt in the east of the region”, the statement reads.

Heavy rain is expected to begin late on Wednesday and to continue throughout Thursday.
